Statement on Close of Filing Week
May 12, 2025
Four weeks ago, I announced my candidacy for mayor of Anacortes, a position I sought four years ago but lost by a narrow margin. This past Friday at 5 pm, the filing period to appear on the ballot closed—and I am the only candidate who filed. While the people of Anacortes haven’t yet gotten to vote, it's reasonable to assume I’ll be elected since I’ll be the only candidate on the ballot.
Election day is not until November 4, and I won't take office until January 2026. Until then, we only have one mayor at a time, and we have plenty of work ahead throughout 2025 on the City Council.
I'm excited for the seven months ahead and the opportunity it provides to plan for a smooth transition. I'll be winding down my private law practice, and instead of actively campaigning and fundraising, I'll be preparing, reading, spending time with my family, and reaching out to voters—and making myself available for one-on-ones with Anacortesans who would like to bend the ear of the next mayor.
» Book time to meet with me via phone, online, or in-person
Finally, I'm more grateful than I can express to my family, friends, supporters, and contributors, to those who kept my yard signs and car magnets over the last four years (!), and to all those who've put their confidence in me. I won't let you down.
