Ryan Walters is an attorney, land use planner, and elected official passionate about government transparency, efficiency, and digitization.
As a fifth-generation resident and Anacortes City Councilmember, Ryan is leading the way to sustainable infrastructure spending, pushed for an all-new Comprehensive Plan, and spearheaded a complete rewrite of the City's land use and civil enforcement code.
Today, Ryan serves as Planning and Community Development Director for the Samish Indian Nation, working with Tribal Council and tribal administration to build and plan the future of the tribe.
From 2016-2018, as Assistant Director of the Skagit County planning department, Ryan led the 30-person department as it updated the County's Comprehensive Plan, worked on modernizing its development code, and transitioned toward performance management, digital records, online services, and social media.
From 2007-2016, Ryan served as deputy prosecuting attorney for Skagit County, providing legal advice to the county planning department and Board of County Commissioners, resolving the County's last remaining cases before the Growth Management Hearings Board, representing local hospitals in civil commitment hearings, and prosecuting a variety of misdemeanors.
